About Me:
Ola R. Jackson is the founder of OWN: Onyx Woman Network, Media for Women of Color. OWN: Onyx Woman Network consist of a business magazine, a television talk show that focuses on financial empowerment, career advancement, entrepreneurial development and wellness. We are also creating an online radio talk show.

Our web site has segments from our talk shows that feature professional black women who serve as experts in the areas of finances, business growth and development and career guidance. We created a talk show to fill a void in the broadcast industry that too often overlook the issues of concern to African-American women. Shopping While Black

It was a few weeks into the New Year when I decided to stop in a store, and reward myself for the efforts of my labor in the previous year. As soon as I walked in the door I saw some clothes that I felt I would like to try on. I picked out several garments that were located near the front door of the store.

Working my way back, I soon found myself overwhelmed with all of the merchandise that I had to carry. Instead of coming over to help me to the dressing room, the saleswoman responded by rema… Continue

Home Girl, CEO...It's A Movement!

Does the recent financial devastation make you want to exchange your own employment situation for the business that you have long dreamt of? Are you waiting to reach a magic number that will allow you to trade your job for your dream only to find that the stock market has pushed that number even further away?

It is hard not to be frustrated with companies that make millions in revenue and spend it on bonuses for upper management while forcing instability on employees further down the chain of c… Continue

Are you an Onyx Woman?

Are you an Onyx Woman? Allow us to explain. The Onyx Woman knows what she wants and she is not afraid to ask other women for help on how to get it. She doesn't just step over you to get to the top. She is willing to lift you up and take you along the journey; but only if you are willing to meet her half way.

She keeps negativity at bay and she doesn't just avoid bad words, she is also in control of the thoughts that can equally block her blessings and adversely impact those who surround her. Je… Continue

Girls, We Need to Talk! (TM)

Welcome to our new blog. This blog will address the issues that women
of color face on a daily basis. Everything from racial profiling to
harassment on the job, to relationships. Our first official blog will
be called," Shopping While Black"

You
remember how excited we all got when a national news station spent some
time talking about the state of black women. We were all so excited to
have a voice. We were surprised that some national entity felt
compelled to spotlight our issues.

Hi Ola!!! It is well! It hasn't been long since things settled down with Dad. I just had my media kit copy-edited and designed by professionals, so now it's back on the grind for me. I was half-working...

Don't let the book stress you. You should enjoy the process. It will come out in due time and when it does you want it to be right. Did you decide to self-publish?

Ola,
I think I posted in the wrong space.
Thanks so much for your love and support and we had a powerful time with you here in the ATL. You are a true blessing to us all. I have contacted with a few of the new sisters I met at the event. Networking and connecting with each other will be a vital key to sisters success. You know the key. Love to the family and I look forward to seeing you in January.
Love ya,
E

A Comments from one of our readers:
Thank you for allowing a platform of expression for the Home Girl, CEO.
You and your vision are both absolutely FABULOUS!
As far As my home based business, I haven't completely taking the plunge but, I'm 90% there!

Here's my thing:
I can no longer fall victim to a work place that has not set up ample respect for the single mom! My last job wanted me to work from 4pm-1am. In my opinion, they were telling me to forget about my family, and forget about having a life and let someone else raise your child!
To me, that's truly unacceptable as well as, on the other hand, motivating.
I can't continue to do the same thing and get the same results. I think they call that "insanity", right!
For me, that was a serious wake up call. So now, I'm working through this thing called "fear" and it's been a douzie! However, I plan to succeed at all cost.
I have too! I'm not giving myself any other option and you shouldn't either.
Always remember that we come from a background of strong survivors that would do anything for the price of freedom, even risk loosing their lives.
So , on that note, lets expect to succeed. Let's plan, organize, and execute! Let's be that person that we are waiting to show up! Let's do the do! Let's make a committment to hold each other accountable for success. I'll take the stand first.
