I am a married mother and grandmother who is a published poet/author of two books of poetry, “A Sister Speaks of…” and recently revised “Ain’t Gonna Bite My Tongue No More,” (www.patmclean.com). I am the recipient of several awards, including 1st place for the Sonia Sanchez/Audre Lorde Poetry Competition and second place for Judith Stark Creative Writing Competition at Community College of Philadelphia and have appeared on several radio and television programs, such as WUSL Power 99 FM, WHAT AM “Etches”, WRTI FM “The Bridge”, WPEB AM “People, Politics & Poetry, Philadelphia Board of Education Public TV and WYBE “Showbiz Rap,” just to name a few. For many years I have been facilitating poetry-writing workshops entitled “Poetry Pulls Pain,” ( whis is also the title of my new CD & Poetry Book Compilation Book) for teen and adult women at numerous institutions, organizations, women and children’s transitional homes. I consider myself to be a social artist and as such I seek innovative solutions to troubling conditions. It has always been my dream to use my love of poetry, as a conduit for individual and community empowerment.
After performances at numerous educational institutions, community organizations and events allowed me to witness the direction in which many of our young girls were headed, I felt an overwhelming need and desire to “do” something, and so “TOMORROW’S GIRLS” was born.(www.tomorrowsgirls.org)
Tomorrow’s Girls, an enrichment program for young girls ages 7 – 13, started in 2002. The program is free of charge to participants, because I wanted it to be accessible to everyone. Still thriving, it addresses vitally important issues facing our youth today. Some topics covered are (health, STDs, AIDS, abstaining from early intercourse, college choices, career development, financial planning, etc.). The girls also learn such skills as: cooking, painting, photography, sewing, jewelry making, and other creative artistic talents.
TOMORROW'S GIRLS is funded by mostly by me, in-kind-donations and local grants, but these funds are limited and few. It is through my desire to keep this program alive that my latest venture was born, YESTERDAY'S Bargain Thrift Shop. Proceeds from the shop help to enhance the TOMORROW’S GIRLS Program providing scholarships for participants to attend various program activities, events, conferences and outings.

Thank you for allowing a platform of expression for the Home Girl, CEO.
You and your vision are both absolutely FABULOUS!
As far As my home based business, I haven't completely taking the plunge but, I'm 90% there!
Here's my thing:
I can no longer fall victim to a work place that has not set up ample respect for the single mom! My last job wanted me to work from 4pm-1am. In my opinion, they were telling me to forget about my family, and forget about having a life and let someone else raise your child!
To me, that's truly unacceptable as well as, on the other hand, motivating.
I can't continue to do the same thing and get the same results. I think they call that "insanity", right!
For me, that was a serious wake up call. So now, I'm working through this thing called "fear" and it's been a douzie! However, I plan to succeed at all cost.
I have too! I'm not giving myself any other option and you shouldn't either.
Always remember that we come from a background of strong survivors that would do anything for the price of freedom, even risk loosing their lives.
So , on that note, lets expect to succeed. Let's plan, organize, and execute! Let's be that person that we are waiting to show up! Let's do the do! Let's make a committment to hold each other accountable for success. I'll take the stand first.
