My heart is heavy tonight. Not much to say. I am going into prayer and then retiring for the night. Keep me in your prayers dear friends.

God put it on my heart to start a group for those of us who have lost a child, not just in death. If you are struggling with this or have managed to find a way to move forward and want to share. This is the spot.

Dottie, I can remember the year I made a new friend who joined our church. She was a sad, quiet woman whose expression seemed to say, "Please, just let me come to worship God for this short time and disappear. I don't want anyone to talk to me or ...

About Me:
Poet, Author, Singer, Community Activist, Exhorter, Mentor and Inspirational Speaker with just a little Comedy thrown in the mix.. These are just a few of the words that have been used to describe or introduce me, RuNett Nia Ebo (Gray). I have been writing poetry for more than 45 years. What started as a therapy for me, also became my way to minister to, and motivate others. It is my lifelong passion.

I attended a Catholic Elementary school, Wagner Middle and Olney High School in Philadelphia. While attending Clark College (now Clark-Atlanta University), I was given the name "Nia" which is a Swahili word meaning “Purpose.” My peers said that my poems held very poignant, political, thought provoking, inspirational messages that were read and heard by many in school and out.

Over and over I got used to hearing different people say, "I don't like poetry but I like yours." My goal is to continue to write poetry that makes you think, laugh, cry or want to get busy. "Lord, Why Did You Make Me Black" is my signature poem and since it's publication, I am often introduced as the "most bootlegged poet in the world!"
I enjoy sharing all of my work in schools (all levels), churches, correctional institutions, rehabs, retirement homes and anywhere else God sends me. My signature poem has opened many doors for travel and I hope to do more. I also have spiritual/inspirational message bookmarkers and bracelets.

I am celebrating my third year of hosting a poetry venue called POET-IFY: Poetry to Edify, offering those who like to share or listen to poetry a place where they can hear a good word without all the bad ones.

I am blessed to also be the manager of a Gospel and Jazz Ensemble called MTM Band. We have a special ministry, Sunday J.A.M. - sharing music, songs, poetry and the Word of God at various retirement homes in Philadelphia. We look forward to visiting other countries in 2009.

Disney- They Didn't Get It Then and They Don't Get It Now

Greetings all,
Disney didn't get it when I was growing up and they still don't!
After Jasmine and Pocahontas, I thought Disney finally had a light-bulb moment!
In case you haven't heard, Disney has finally come up with a princess of darker hue in response to a question that was put to them some time ago by a concerned mother who took her daughter to Disney World. After seeing Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel; her daughter asked why there wasn't a princess who "looked l… Continue

It's Time for Change It's All About Respect

Namaste everyone!
We have a new President! The forty-fourth President of the United States of America is an African-American! It is a NEW DAY!! It is time for Americans (no matter who they are) who had the wrong image of African-Americans to see us in a new light. I transitioned through the 60's finally realizing and believing that Black is Beautiful and that I deserved respect. Some, who have never experienced disrespect, do not know what that means or why many (over 50+) got so e… Continue

A Comments from one of our readers:
Thank you for allowing a platform of expression for the Home Girl, CEO.
You and your vision are both absolutely FABULOUS!
As far As my home based business, I haven't completely taking the plunge but, I'm 90% there!

Here's my thing:
I can no longer fall victim to a work place that has not set up ample respect for the single mom! My last job wanted me to work from 4pm-1am. In my opinion, they were telling me to forget about my family, and forget about having a life and let someone else raise your child!
To me, that's truly unacceptable as well as, on the other hand, motivating.
I can't continue to do the same thing and get the same results. I think they call that "insanity", right!
For me, that was a serious wake up call. So now, I'm working through this thing called "fear" and it's been a douzie! However, I plan to succeed at all cost.
I have too! I'm not giving myself any other option and you shouldn't either.
Always remember that we come from a background of strong survivors that would do anything for the price of freedom, even risk loosing their lives.
So , on that note, lets expect to succeed. Let's plan, organize, and execute! Let's be that person that we are waiting to show up! Let's do the do! Let's make a committment to hold each other accountable for success. I'll take the stand first.
